Laura’s story-
In February 2025, after discovering a lump, Doris was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer—an aggressive form of cancer that had already progressed to stage 4. The cancer had spread to multiple parts of her body, including her pelvis, spine, liver, and lungs. The months that followed were unimaginably difficult.
Doris underwent chemotherapy and immunotherapy while battling intense pain and severe mobility issues. She also received radiotherapy to her spine. Despite everything, there were moments of hope. Scans showed tumours shrinking, with some disappearing entirely. For Doris, those results meant one priceless thing:
Time.
More time with her husband.
More time with her children.
More time to watch them grow. That time is everything.
Sadly, treatment soon became more complicated. Although immunotherapy was helping fight the cancer, it began causing serious autoimmune complications. Doris became reliant on a wheelchair, and severe inflammation led to repeated hospital admissions, high-dose steroids, and antibiotics. Eventually, immunotherapy had to stop. In Doris’s own words: “Losing a line of treatment feels like I’m losing a lifeline.”
In February 2026—one year after diagnosis—Doris discovered another lump under her arm. Scans confirmed progression, requiring additional treatment. More hospital stays followed. More scans. More biopsies. More waiting.
Waiting for inflammation to settle.
Waiting for biopsy results.
Waiting for a new treatment plan.
In April 2026, Doris underwent a second round of radiotherapy. In May, she restarted chemotherapy and felt hopeful to be back on treatment. But pain management became increasingly difficult, with even high doses of medication offering little relief.
Then came more heartbreaking news. Recent scans showed disease progression—more active tumours had developed in her liver, armpit, and back. Thanks to the incredible support of NHS Scotland, Doris immediately began a new chemotherapy treatment: Sacituzumab.
But the reality is difficult. There are fewer options left. Time feels more precious than ever. Palliative care discussions have begun.
And yet—Doris refuses to stop fighting.
She is in full fight mode.
She is fighting for her life.
Fighting for precious time.
Fighting for more memories with the people she loves most.
Right now, Doris is actively researching alternative treatments that may offer hope where conventional options are limited. One possible treatment, TACE (Trans arterial Chemoembolization) *, is not available to her through the NHS and may require travel to Germany for specialist care.
This brings enormous financial challenges—not only treatment costs, but also travel, accommodation, and the cost of having a chaperone with her throughout treatment.
This is why we need your help.
I am Laura’s sister-in-law, and I am starting this campaign on behalf of Doris and her family. Over the coming weeks and months, alongside Laura’s closest friends and family, we will be doing everything we can to raise funds and support her fight.
